Wayne Starnes has been with the Scott County Road Department for almost 12 years! He was promoted to Forman about 6 years ago where he supervises a crew in daily maintenance of the roads, snow removal, mowing, and any other repairs of Scott County roads and buildings. To become Forman, he had to put in a lot of time on the roads, seeing and responding to all kinds of situations. Starnes says he has always enjoyed working in construction, so the SC Road Department was a perfect fit for him!

Starnes enjoys working for the department because of the environment that has been created by his coworkers and community. He is also grateful for the opportunities to work outdoors alongside great people who care about the safety of SC citizens– “The guys are great to work with, and we all get along,” he says. Starnes also appreciates the excitement the job brings. You never know what will happen. The work is constantly changing, and it is not about doing the same thing every day.

2020 has been a crazy year for all of us, but Starnes has been making the most of it. Some of his goals for the rest of the year are to stay healthy, take more trips with his kids, and spend more time with his family. He is a lifelong resident of Scott County and now resides here with his wife and children. Starnes was nominated by County Road Supervisor JR Brandenburg who says that Starnes is a valuable asset to the department with years of experience. We are happy to have him in our community!
