2 30.1 O RDINANCE NO. 92-011 A N ORDINANCE RELATING TO THE CREATION O F T HE SCOTT COUNTY DEPUTY SHERIFF MERIT BOARD PURSUANT TO KRS CHAPTER 70. ( A) WHEREAS, new legislation relating to KRS Chapter 7 0 a llows a Fiscal Court of each county that does not have a n u rban-county or charter county government to enact an ordinance c reating a Deputy Sheriff Merit Board, which said Deputy Sheriff M erit Board shall be charged with the duty of holding hearings, p ublic and executive, in disciplinary matters concerning deputy s heriffs; and, ( B) WHEREAS, said legislation seeks to raise the p rofessional standards of the position of Deputy Sheriff and e nhance the quality of law enforcement throughout the Commonwealth o f K entucky; and, ( C) WHEREAS, the Scott County Fiscal Court having r ecognized the need and value of a Deputy Sheriff Merit Board t o r aise the professional standards of the position of Deputy S heriff and enhance the quality of law enforcement throughout S cott County, directed that an ordinance creating said Deputy S heriff Merit Board be drafted in Ordinance-form for consideration a nd p assage by the Fiscal Court, B E IT ORDAINED BY THE FISCAL COURT OF SCOTT COUNTY, K ENTUCKY, THAT THIS ORDINANCE BE KNOWN AS THE SCOTT COUNTY D EPUTY SHERIFF MERIT BOARD ORDINANCE. T HEREFORE, IT IS ORDERED, the following: ( 1) The purpose of this ordinance is to create i n S cott County a Deputy Sheriff Merit Board pursuant to the r ights and constraints of KRS Chapter 70, said board to be f ormally known as the Scott County Deputy Sheriff Merit Board. ( 2) The reasonable and necessary expenses of the b oard, including the funds necessary to retain an attorney t o a dvise the board on legal matters, shall be paid out of
